St. Pat's Is the Reason I Stay Grounded

St. Pat's Is the Reason I Stay Grounded

Did you know that 70% of the population does not have a living will? Dave Glatz '86, is not part of that national statistic. Dave and his wife, Sheila, finalized their will this year and named Saint Patrick as a remainder in their estate. Although Dave feels that the process of creating a will required some serious thought and decision making, he and Sheila felt much better once it was finalized. "It (the process) offered a sense of relief and it was an investment worth making," Dave said.

Not only is Dave invested in the future of St. Pat's as one of the youngest members of the Anam Cara Heritage Society, he continues to be an avid supporter of the tuition assistance program through the annual fund. Although Dave realizes that the tuition is much higher than when he went to school here in the 80's, the value of a St. Pat's education is still a bargain compared to other private Catholic high schools in the Chicagoland area.

In addition to his generous financial support, Dave recently became an active member of the Alumni Board. "I've always supported St. Pat's financially, but I also wanted to get involved with volunteering instead of just writing a check" Dave stated. Glatz credits his ongoing commitment to St. Pat's to the positive and rewarding experience during his four years as a Shamrock. He feels that St. Pat's is an institution known throughout the city for its high academic achievement as well as producing hard-working, solid people with integrity. "At St. Pat's, people don't forget where they came from. St. Pat's is the reason I stay grounded," Glatz said.

Dave strongly feels that the moral compass instilled at Saint Patrick has helped him in his job as a corporate and securities attorney with Bell, Boyd & Lloyd. "I don't push the envelope. Not everything in life is black and white. There are gray areas and when the shading gets too dark, I know to stay away from it. I also believe in the philosophy that everyone should be treated equally - from the maintenance staff all the way up to the Chairman of the Board," Dave said.

Grateful for the sense of morality that St. Pat's helped to instill in him, Dave would someday like to join the Board of Directors to help set policy to ensure that the Saint Patrick experience continues to be available to all. "Brother Konrad and the Board have done a great job solidifying the schools' financial future, Dave adds. "I would like to help further solidify the schools' future by keeping it affordable for the kids who want to come here. St. Pat's prepares people for the future, and I want to help be a part of that plan."
