Helping Future Generations

Helping Future Generations

The wonderful thing about planned giving is that it can greatly benefit you and your loved ones, while also helping others - in this case, the students of Saint Patrick. We are grateful to the 74 members of our Anam Cara Society who have included Saint Patrick in their estate plans. The combined gifts of the 44 living members represent more than $7 million for the school. These future gifts will help keep St. Pat's strong for generations to come. Planned Giving enhances areas of the school by supporting financial aid, capital improvements, and teachers' salaries.

As you can see from the following stories, there are many different reasons why our friends want to include Saint Patrick in your estate plans. If you would like more information about how you can include St. Pat's in your plans, please contact Gary D. Santella at 773-282-8844 ext 224.

Judith Rice
Judy Rice, a graduate of Alvernia High School, which is now closed, decided to include St. Pat's in her plans in 2006. "I discovered the value of this incredible school when I was a student at a girls' school nearby (Alvernia) and had the good fortune to participate in St. Pat's Theatre Arts program by being cast in its musical," Judy stated. "In addition to the educational opportunity, I was given the gift of many wonderful friendships that have endured for over 45 years. I'm honored to be able to help provide that same opportunity for generations to come."

Mike Schmitt '75
Mike and his wife, Joy, were the first to make St. Pat's a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. In addition, Mike Schmitt started the John and Elizabeth Schmitt Scholarship Fund. The reason for the Schmitt's donations were that they felt blessed, and wanted to "give back" in some way. "For me, it was a way to say thanks to my parents for all they had done for me and for the sacrifices they made sending me to St. Pat's. It was also a way to recognize the fine people at St. Pat's who are dedicated to providing young men a solid Christian education," Schmitt said.

Wayne Suerth '63
Wayne has been an avid supporter of St. Pat's annual fund for a number of years. In 2005, Wayne and his wife, Carol, hosted an alumni gathering in their California home overlooking the San Diego bay. Watching the video that was shown at their home that evening brought back fond memories for Wayne and reignited the desire to give back out of gratitude for the education that he received. "My planned giving to Saint Patrick was an important part of my estate planning. I felt strongly in contributing because of the immeasurable foundation of learning that I received while attending St. Pat's. The experience has served me well in my career and personal life," said Suerth. Even though Wayne lives in California and was unable to send his children to St. Pat's, he feels that his contribution, along with the donations from other alumni, will help make it possible for future generations of students in the Chicago area to attend the school and keep the tradition alive.
